Hello Wonderful Families,
I wanted to send out a bit of information on grading. You will receive a report card at the end of Semester 1, January 17th and the end of Semester 2, June 11th.
Exceeds Expectations = more than 8.9% progress/month
Meets Expectations = 7.5% to 8.9 % progress/month
Below Expectations = less than 7.5% progress/month
If you started on the first day of school, August 16th, 2012, your grades will be based on the progress percentages below. Percentages will be pulled at the end of the day on January 17th, 2013.
Exceeds Expectations: 45% or higher
Meets Expectations: 37%-44%
Below Expectations: 0-36%
If you are behind at this time, do not worry. You have time to catch up. Here are some things you can do:
*Double up on some lessons during the week
*Work a little on the weekends
*Take some time to work during the upcoming breaks
But, please, do take some time off on the weekends and over breaks. A lesson or two here and there can make a big difference on your percentages.
Study Island
Study Island is indeed a part of the Middle School grading scale and therefore is a requirement. Please use your extra time (not required of course) to work on blue ribbons if you are behind.
Late Starters
I know that we have some late starters in our class. To figure out where your student should be, you would multiple the number of weeks your child has been in school multiplied by 3.
If you have any questions about grading please do not hesitate to ask. I want to be sure everyone understands the expectations. Our goal is to get your student through 100% of their curriculum by the end of the year and expose them to all of their grade level standards.
Being a learning coach is a lot of work, and I appreciate all of the work you do.
