In-person Meetings

Good morning Cava!

As we are approaching the holidays as well as the end of Quarter 2, I would like to schedule an in-person meeting with each of you.  In our meetings, we will discuss the goals you’ve made for your student, go over Quarter 2 (and if necessary Quarter 1) work samples, discuss music and art courses (if applicable), progress, attendance, and spend a little bit of time discussing ways/resources on how to provide your student with the necessary tools for him/her to meet their goals.  Of course if there are any other questions, you may have, that will be a perfect time as well.

I have attached an excel document that has a schedule of when I will be in your area as well as the location.  For most of you, we will plan on meeting at the same Starbucks as we did at our welcome meeting.  However, the Modesto, Escalon, and Riverbank location, we’ll move to the new Starbucks on Oakdale Rd as it is much larger with more table space. J  For those of you in the Turlock area, if meeting at the Starbucks in Ceres is more convenient, we can work that out.  If you could please respond and let me know what date and time you are available for the times that are offered, that would be great.  Mondays and Fridays are packed with meetings and Class Connects, therefore, Wednesdays consume the schedule for the most part.  We are also getting into the holidays and breaks and therefore, I am working on scheduling our meetings around that as well as making them before the quarter ends (Jan. 19th).

When we meet, I would like your student to bring the following:

·         Math work sample (w/ appropriate heading) – please use checklist

·         Language work sample (w/ appropriate heading) – please use checklist

·         Science work sample (w/ appropriate heading) – please use checklist

·         History work sample (w/ appropriate heading) – please use checklist

o   Art – we’ll discuss this and you may bring any work to share (I will not be taking these)

o   Music - we’ll discuss this and you may bring any work to share (I will not be taking these)

I look forward to meeting with each of you!  Please let me know times/dates that work for you.  These will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Spelling Bee

Dear CAVA Families:

Each year, CAVA invites students in grades 3-8 to participate in our school-wide Spelling Bee.  This is a fun and educational event that gives students a chance to develop self-confidence, communication skills, the ability to speak in front of a group, and an opportunity to think under pressure.  This year’s Spelling Bee will be held at our Community Day Site in Lodi,  Westside Assembly Church, 75 N. Crescent, Lodi 95240 on Tuesday, December 11th at 11:30 am. Please RSVP on www.CAVATest.org by December 4th.

Every child that participates is considered a winner; however, the top speller at each site will advance to a school-wide competition, and our school winner will be invited to participate at the national level in a virtual K12 Spelling Bee.

In the meantime, your child is welcome to start brushing up on his/her spelling skills!  While our official word list must be closely guarded until the actual bee, there are many online sites for studying spelling words. A particularly good site to visit is Spell It!, or you are welcome to do a browser search for other study sites.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at awood@caliva.org or call me at (209)456-5118.

Happy Spelling!

End of the Month Progress Percentages - Recorded Friday, November 30th

Progress Percentages-recorded on Friday, November 30

Hello CAVA Families,

Just a reminder…Progress percentages will be recorded on Friday, November 30.  Please try to have finished and assessed lessons marked complete on the OLS so that the percentages will be accurate.  The percentages shown on the OLS on Friday, November 30 will be included on your child’s Work Record so we want to make sure they are as up to date and accurate as possible. This is a great time to finish started lessons and master ones still needing review.

As a reminder, students should be progressing 2 ½ -3% in each course per week, or at least 10% in each course per month.

By November 30, students who started on 8/16/12 should have about 38% progress across the curriculum.

Take care,
