Progress expectation

Good afternoon Cava!

I have listed the various start dates of all of my students and have attached the expected progress as of the end of this week. I’m basing it off of the number of weeks your child has been in school multiplied by 2.  Remember, they are to be working on 2-3% progress each week in each subject.

Quarter 4 works amples/additional assignments DUE

Good morning!

I wanted to take some time to explain what is expected this quarter (last semester) and what is due in regards to assignments.  As mentioned in prior emails, your student is still expected to turn in a work sample from the subjects of Math, Language, Science, and History.  Per the Middle School Grading Scale that has been sent our quite a bit, the semester grade is largely based on some of the additional assignments.  I’ve attached the Grading Scale again for your convenience.  As with all quarters, a Composition will be due in which that can be used for the Language work sample.  For quarter 4 (per the assignment sheet that was sent out early in the semester), a History writing assignment will be due.  This can be used as the work sample for History.  For Science, there is a science investigation (per the assignment sheet) and this can be turned in as the science work sample.  The only sample that would be left would be the math sample.  Please do not give me an assessment but an offline assignment that was placed on your student’s schedule to complete.  All in all, as long as your student completes the additional assignments from Composition, Science, and History, the only other sample I’ll need is one from math.

Below I have provided snapshots of every grade level’s assignment sheets (to show where to find the additional assignments) as well as a snapshot of each level’s pacing guide to show how you find the assignments and which unit/lesson they come out of.

*****PLEASE NOTE – if your student is behind in progress and is not yet at the point they have completed these, per administration’s instructions, please have them skip ahead in order to get these additional assignments completed.

As mentioned in the email that went out yesterday, I will need ALL samples for quarter 4 as well as the additional assignments NO LATER THAN MAY 17th (Friday). I am preparing to move and will no longer be at the Modesto address after this date).  If you’d prefer to physically hand your items in to me, that is even better.  As noted, I am in Stockton today until 12 and will be at the following locations tomorrow and the following weeks.

·        Tuesday, April 30th from 10am-12pm (noon) @ the Troke Library, Stockton

·        Wednesday, May 1st from 10am-12pm (noon) @ the Modesto Library, Modesto

·        Tuesday, May 7th from 10-12pm (noon) @ the Manteca Library, Manteca

·        Wednesday, May 14th from 10-12(noon)@ the Tracy Library , Tracy

6th grade Assignment Sheet & Pacing Guide

To find out which lesson/unit each additional assignment is in, please use the appropriate pacing guide below (per the subject) to find the assignment number.  You will then look to the right and it will tell you which unit/lesson it comes from.

8th Grade Assignment Sheet

I’m hoping this explains a bit more as to what is expected.  Please pay close attention to the grading scale as this is what I will be basing your student’s grades off of come report card time.  I will be following up with an email that shows the start dates and what percentage they should be at based on their start date.

PLEASE NOTE!!!! Although for most, State testing is behind us, STUDY ISLAND still needs to be revisited for those who have not completed AT LEAST 50% (for a B) and AT LEAST 75% (for an A) in the subject area of MATH and LANGUAGE.  STUDY ISLAND PLAYS A HUGE ROLE IN YOUR CHILD’S GRADE.

If you have further questions, please let me know.  It is best to send these documents sooner than later.  Again, if students are working daily on their online schools, finding the work samples should be fairly easy as the offline work is part of their daily requirements.  Once again, if your student is not quite at the same place where the additional assignments come from, PLEASE SKIP AHEAD TO COMPLETE.

Thanks so much and have a great week!

In person work sample drop off - STOCKTON, Tuesday April 30th

Hello Families!

This is just a reminder that I will be in Stockton at the Library tomorrow (Tuesday, April 30th) from 10-12pm.  I will be there for you to drop off your work samples and additional assignments (should they be completed).  Per my email that went out last week, I will also be in the locations of Modesto, Manteca, and Tracy in the coming weeks.  Remember, I am only needing one sample from every core subject (Language, Science, History, Math).  The science investigation can count as a science work sample and the History and Composition additional assignments (per your assignment sheet) can count as work samples as well.

During the drop off hours, an appointment is not necessary.  Thanks so much and we’ll look forward to seeing you there.  Should you not attend any of the in-person meetings, I will need ALL assignments (both work samples and additional assignments) no later than May 24th.  I will be moving from the Modesto address after this, therefore, having your samples for quarter 4 mailed prior or dropped off at one of the locations would be best.  Please also remember to be updating attendance and PE logs.

Thanks so much!

Please check in on student progress

Progress Percentages-recorded on Tuesday, April 30th

Hello CAVA Families,

Just a reminder…Progress percentages will be recorded on Tuesday, April 30.  Please try to have finished and assessed lessons marked complete on the OLS so that the percentages will be accurate.  The percentages shown on the OLS on Tuesday, April 30 will be included on your child’s Work Record so we want to make sure they are as up to date and accurate as possible. This is a great time to finish started lessons and master ones still needing review.  Please NOTE….this is JUST A REMINDER FOR THE END OF THE MONTH.

Remember to check the Not Mastered Tabs for any lessons to complete:

As a reminder, students should be progressing 2 ½ -3% in each course per week, or at least 10% in each course per month.

By April 30, students who started on 8/16/12 should have about 84% progress across the curriculum.

Take care,

Christie Louis

Answers to recent questions on upcoming work samples

Good evening!

It seems as though quarter 4 has brought on some questions, and therefore, I wanted to approach them with answers.

1.       What work samples are required for this quarter?

a.       You will provide the same amount of work samples this quarter as you always have (one lesson from math, language, science, history).  The difference is that this quarter students will have a science investigation and a composition (like normal). The science investigation can count as your Science work sample.

2.        What is needed to do the required projects?

a.       Please look to your assignment sheet (a pdf that was kmailed at the beginning of semester 2).  If you look under the column “additional required assignments” you will see these assignments and their due dates.  While the due dates say June 11th, I am going to ask that these be turned in no later than May 17th if possible in order for me to get your child’s report card to you in a timely manner. If your child is completing their online schools daily, they should have completed some of this already or will be shortly if they are up to date on progress.  Should they not be, they can always find the assignment and complete it that way.

I’ve also attached the Middle School Grading Scale again so that you are aware of what I will be basing the semester report card grades upon.  About a month ago, I sent out an email informing everyone of how to calculate where their child is currently so that they can ensure all requirements get completed and percentages are fulfilled.  If you need this email again, let me know.

If you have forgotten what the assignment sheet is, I have provided a snapshot of what one of the grade levels looks like.  Please note, all grade levels, look a bit different. Please also refer to the pacing guide in which will show you the assignment number and which unit/lesson you will find it.

****If you have not updated attendance or quarter 4s PE log, please do so.  Quarter 3s PE log has already been printed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  If you contact me tomorrow, please note that I will be in Modesto testing for the CSTs (8th grade and make ups) from 8:30-1:00pm.  Thank you.
