Good afternoon Cava Families!
As promised, I wanted to send out an email explaining the new assignment sheets that had been sent out for Semester 2 (consisting of quarter 3 and quarter 4). Below is a snapshot of an assignment sheet for a 6th grade student who has been with Cava since August and who is on track (you will notice there are no red units/lessons marked in the “additional required assignments” column). The 7th and 8th grade assignment sheets would look very similar (obviously different assignments).
On the other hand, this same grade level’s assignment sheet would look something like below if there was a student who was behind from last semester. What this means is whatever lessons that did not get completed before or on January 17 of last semester, would be tacked on to this semester’s assignment sheet. These assignments/lessons would then be added to the “additional required assignments” column in red. These are assignments that must be completed and are there for a reminder.
Likewise, a student who is “late entering” and has started with Cava 3rd quarter, they too will have lessons/units listed in RED but these will be “key” lessons they need to complete FIRST as they will be crucial for the end of the year. Once a student completes the “key” lessons, I can then go add the other lessons that I compacted (marked complete) so that they can be completed and exposed to that information. Below is an example from a “late entering” 8th grader.
******PLEASE NOTE: IF YOUR STUDENT HAD UNFINISHED ASSIGNMENTS FROM SEMESTER 1, THEIR COURSES TOO HAVE BEEN COMPACTED AS IT IS CRUCIAL THAT THEY ALSO COMPLETE THE KEY LESSONS FIRST PRIOR TO THE END OF THE YEAR. AS I CONTINUE WATCHING PROGRESS AND NOTICE THAT THESE KEY LESSONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AND THERE IS STILL TIME, I WILL AS MENTIONED GO IN AND UNMARK THE “COMPLETED” LESSONS SO THAT YOUR CHILD GETS THAT EXPOSURE AS WELL.
When I go in and compact courses, you will start noticing your student’s daily/weekly plan consisting of TONS of completely filled in green circles. This is my doing.
******ANOTHER NOTE: WHILE I’M COMPACTING YOUR STUDENT’S LESSONS TO ASSIST THEM IN COMPLETING THE ‘KEY’ LESSONS AND THEIR PROGRESS IS INCREASING, IT IS STILL YOUR CHILD’S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THESE LESSONS THAT WERE UNFINISHED OR MARKED COMPLETED NEED TO BE DONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR. I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY THAT WHILE THEIR PROGRESS IS UP AND THEIR COURSES HAVE BEEN COMPACTED, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT WHATEVER THEY DIDN’T DO IS NO BIG DEAL. IT IS AND GRADES WILL SHOW THAT IF THIS IS LEFT UNDONE.
Basically, as long as your child logs in to their online schools DAILY, and completes their online/offline assignments in their ENTIRETY they will get these key lessons done.
Please make sure to also pay attention to the other assignments in the “additional required” box as those will need to be mailed to me by their due dates. These are not in addition to their online schools but simply something else I’m collecting.
I’m hoping this email sends some clarification in regards to the assignment sheets and color codes that went along with them. Of course if you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank you for all you do in staying on top of your child’s education! J
