October's Study Island Winner!

Good afternoon Cava!

As mentioned, for the month of October, I chose to do a drawing from the top 5 Study Island contenders.  Each month I may change it up.  For the month of November, I will enter those students who logged into Study Island and earned the weeks assigned blue ribbons and do a drawing from that selection.

Below is Octobers winner and the runners up!

Congratulations to those runners up as well!  Our class is doing great!  Please remember, if you have not earned your blue ribbons weekly in each subject assigned, please do so.  Study Island blue ribbons are a large part of your semester grade.  Please see the grading scale below. J

Below is the Middle School Grading Scale (75% of blue ribbons need to be earned in applicable subjects in order to earn an A)

Non-Compliance Policy

Good afternoon Learning Coaches!

        I just wanted to send out a little reminder of Cava’s Non-Compliance Policy and how it works.  A student is considered, “not compliant” if:

·        There is non-attendance (3 or more days)

·        Missed/refusal to schedule meetings

·        Teachers are unable to contact the learning coaches

·        Enrollment requirements are not met

o   Progress

o   Attendance

o   Required documents

If any of the above circumstances arise, teachers are mandated to follow procedures (phone calls, emails, letters sent home, etc) to get the student back on track.  If the procedures are not followed, it may result in a withdrawal from our school.  It is my desire to not have to bother you with these items, however, this is a very important piece that we all should be informed of.

I know we all share the same goal for our students in regards to their academics therefore, it is important that we too are aware of the expectations to ensure the success of our students.

Thanks so much!

This week's newsletter - Please read!

Have a great week!  Please read the newsletter thoroughly as there is very important information.  Please ensure that your students are logging in DAILY and completing ALL of their online AND offline assignments.  As mentioned on the newsletter, progress should be up to about 29% by this Friday if your child started on 8/16.  If this is not the case, please calculate where they should be at by multiplying 2-3% by how many weeks they’ve been in school.  If you need help with this, please let me know.

Also, please ensure that Study Island is a part of your daily schedule as well.  I want to remind students that Study Island is a large part of their report card.  Please refer to the Study Island Blue Trackers to ensure your child is staying up on the blue ribbons they are to obtain each week in each subject.

Work samples were due on October 15th, however, there are a few I have not received. Although late, they are required.  Please send those to the Modesto address provided for you on the blue folder (given at our meeting) this week.

If you are struggling to keep all of the emails from me straight, I have provided a blog for you that can help you access ALL of my emails easily.  In addition this blog provided you with an additional link that has important attachments you will need. Please visit this blog as soon as possible.  The address is

Fun Friday

Hi Students and Learning Coaches!

As you know, we started our 1st “Fun Friday” last week and it was a hit for those that were able to log in.  As I mentioned via kmail, those students who have completed ALL of their online schools by Thursday evening (that is when I’ll look to see who can join us Friday afternoon) will be invited to our Fun Friday blackboard.  During this time, we’ll play a game (different each week) and time will be given for open chat.  However, please keep in mind this is supervised and respect and appropriateness is expected.

Keep in mind that your online schools is a requirement in addition to ALL offline assignments as well.  Please refer to the Middle School Grading Scale (attached in the google documents – see the red link to the right of the blog page) to ensure that you are fulfilling the grade level academic requirements.

As always, I am here to help!  I’m looking forward to Friday.  This event will take place at 1:00pm.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Updated Assignment Sheets being kmailed

Good morning CAVA families!

I just wanted to let you know that I have been looking over assignment sheets (the colorful sheet you received at our in person meeting that has the courses listed on it).  If your child has had any changes to their courses, changes to work load, or continuing with classes from last year, those have been updated.  There’s nothing really you need to do but to have it saved in your file.  I would recommend that you save and print it.  These are important to check once in awhile with as they do list the “additional assignments” that are due throughout the semester.  I will email reminders about due dates but regardless, this is an important document for you to have.

These assignment sheets will be coming via kmail as they have personal information on them.

I know this is a very busy time right now, but please, please, please remember to be mailing out your student’s work samples as they are due Oct. 15th .  Please send the “additional assignment” – composition with it. You will be sending those samples to my home address which is listed on the checklist that I continue sending out as well as the blue folder that was provided to you at our in-person meeting.  It is 2104 Gaslight Dr. Modesto, CA 95355.  Please also make sure you have updated attendance and the PE log as those both will be printed off tomorrow (Friday).

Finally, please ensure you child is completing 2-3% progress in EACH subject EACH week.  By tomorrow (Friday the 12th), your student should be at about 22% in ALL subjects.  Logging into you OLS DAILY is REQUIRED and CRUCIAL. J

Thanks so much for your cooperation! J

Back-to-School Packet

Hello CAVA Families!

By now, you should have received an email from School Pathways regarding the Pathways back-to-school packet request.

You will be asked to use the teacher name and student ID provided at the end of the email you received. This ID is NOT the CAVA student ID.  It is an ID given specifically to your student via Pathways and included in the bottom of the email they have sent to you. If you do not have access the state ID, let me know and I”ll get it for you.   If you cannot find this email, the address to access this is,

https://cavasj.spsis.com/mod.php/public/registration/wizard.php

The email is labeled School Registration Process.  Please look for this email as it is part of the new system we will be using this year for collecting our student data.

The purpose of the online forms is to register for each family an online Back-To-School packet, similar to what comes home on the first day of school at a brick and mortar school.

The state of California requires the school to collect this information every year to ensure that it is accurate, and it also allows CAVA to apply for additional funds.

Please search your inbox or junk mail folders to find this email.  If you have not done so already, please register as soon as possible as the due date was last Friday.  I know things are very hectic right now and I do appreciate you being on top of everything.  Things will slow down in quarter 2.
J

Here is an example of what the email message looks like.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello,
CAVA is using a new online system to complete a Back-to-School Packet for the 2012-13 school year.  The state of California requires the school to collect this information every year to ensure that it is accurate, and it also allows CAVA to apply for additional funds.  If there is any information that needs to be updated or corrected, please do so.  Please complete the Back-to-School Packet as soon as possible by clicking on the link below.
When you arrive at the REG-Online system, you will be required to create a secure password to continue the process.  Please be sure to save this password in case you have to return to the site to finish any incomplete forms.
You will also need the identification number and teacher's last name in the table at the bottom of this email.
If you have questions, please contact your teacher, and thank you for taking the time to complete this important step for our school!
Thank you,
