Cograts and I wish you the best!

Hello My Wonderful CAVA Families,

I want to congratulate you on being done with school!  I hope that you all have a wonderful summer.

School will resume on Monday, August 12, 2013

(Please start checking email by August 5 so that we can get all ISMAs signed prior to the first day of school and begin to schedule our first in person meeting.  Make a note on your calendar!).

Although students will not begin their new course curriculum until August 12, you can see course descriptions and scope and sequence documents at the link below.  Students can also choose their Quarter 1 novel from their novel list to read over the summer if they wish!

You can find information and novel lists here: http://www.k12.com/courses/k-8-courses/downloadable-k-8-course-information/

Best wishes,

STUDY ISLAND

Hello Families!

It appears that Study Island has made TODAY as the last day to work on Study Island.  This should NOT be the case as student’s last day to work on things (to count towards grades) is tomorrow.  The Study Island company is located back east and therefore their June 11th is our June 10th.  That being said, please do the following if your student is trying to access Study Island.

·         Log into Study Island

·         Click on CA programs (to the left)

·         Click on grade level

This should take you to ALL blue ribbons and you can scroll to look for the one you need. Please use the blue ribbon tracker to identify the concept needed.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Christie Louis

Things to do today

Good afternoon Families!

For today, please continue to have your students working in their online schools.  I am currently working on report cards but will be wrapping it up tomorrow to ensure students have tomorrow to finalize things for attendance, progress, etc.  I will be printing report cards off tomorrow evening as that is the LAST day of school.

For today, please ensure to do the following:

·         UPDATE ATTENDANCE

·         UPDATE PE LOGS TO THE END OF THE YEAR (remember, if both Spring and Fall PE logs are not complete, report cards will show a NOT MET status).

·         UPDATE PROGRESS

Report Cards and other info

Hello Families!

I just wanted to inform you of what is going to occur come June 11th.  Once your student is done on June 11th with his/her school work, I will be wrapping up report cards and sending them out on June 13th.  In addition to the report cards being sent, you will also be receiving your child’s Scantron results for both math and reading from this past fall assessment.  That being said, I wanted to attach the Scantron results sheet so that you can identify where your child is expected to be vs. their results.

These results and report cards will also be sent to the Cava office as well. Remember that report card grades are based off of the Middle School Grading Scale.  Scantron, Study Island, Additional Assignments, semester assessments, and progress all play into account.

Thanks so much!

ATTENDANCE - UPDATE TODAY PLEASE

Good morning families!

I just wanted to send out a quick reminder for you to go in today and update attendance.

Our last monthly attendance report for 2012-13 will be run tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11th, at close of business. Additionally, this is our Annual Attendance Report, which is very important. The report will include attendance for Tuesday, May 14th, through Tuesday, June 11th. After the attendance report is run, those days’ attendance will be final. While you will have access to go into the OLS and update their attendance, the amount of attendance we report will not change.

Please be sure to continue to log attendance.

Thanks so much!

Reminder about 8th grade graduation & other awards

Hell families.

This is just a reminder that tomorrow is 8th grade graduation.  We are using this time as well to award some other students for their hard work in various areas of Cava as well.  I have attached the flyer for tomorrow’s graduation.  This is not a requirement, however, would love for ALL 8th graders to be there.  I’d love to see all of my students but know that not everyone lives in the area.

The following alternate awards will be given to students (not necessarily 8th graders). For those that are close, please try and obtain the last few today and I will print out awards.  If you reach the goal and are able to attend the graduation tomorrow, I’ll present them to you.  If not, they will be mailed.  GREAT JOB you guys!

World Language Elective - Please read and let me know today

Dear CAVA Parent,

As we approach the end of the year, I will be ordering your student’s new courses for next year.  I wanted to offer some clarification regarding the World Language programs that will be offered during the 13/14 school year. This information will assist you in making the determination as to which course your student should be enrolled in next year.  Please email me by 4:30 PM on Friday, May 31 indicating one of the following:

ü  Yes, I want my student to continue with World Language for next year.  Our current course is _________, and my student is ____% of the way through this program.

ü  Yes, I want my student to continue with World Language for next year.  We would like to switch to the ________ language program.

ü  No, I want my student to have Music instead of World language for next year (if your student has previously worked in a music course with CAVA, please let me know which course it was).

ü  My student is currently enrolled in a Music course, but would like to switch to World language for next year.  If so, which language would you like your child to be enrolled in?

ü  My student will continue taking Music.

When considering a World Language course for next year, please use the following as a guide:

-- Is your student at 75% or beyond in their current WL course?

If yes, do you wish to continue with the next course, or would you like to switch to Music?

If not, do you wish to continue in the current course in the fall or choose to switch to Music?  If you choose to continue with the same course, please note the program will reset and you will need to start from the beginning or, for elementary students, please make a note as to where your student left off and begin at that point when school resumes.  Middle School students will not be able to pick up where they left off, as there are changes being made to all Middle School World Language courses for the 13/14 school year.

-- Is the student going to be a 3rd grader or above?

If not, we do not recommend the WL program – it is recommended for students in grades 3-8.

Please be aware that this course is not self-paced.  There are 180 lessons that should be completed in the course of one school year.

The courses offered for next year are as follows:

Elementary Courses (Grades 3-5):
Spanish Yr 1 & Yr 2
French Yr 1 & Yr 2
German Yr 1 & Yr 2
Latin Yr 1

Middle School Courses (Grades 6-8)
MS Spanish Yr 1 & Yr 2
MS French Yr 1 & Yr 2
MS German Yr 1 & Yr 2

Student returning to Cava next year - PLEASE READ & RESPOND

Good afternoon!

Teachers are now starting to order courses for next year for students who are returning.  Please respond to this email today by the close of business (4:30) to inform me of which elective your student has chosen for next year (Music or World Language).  We have been notified that for those who have taken a world language this year and was not able to complete it with a certain percentage, that same course will start from the beginning next year.  World language is a course that can’t be worked on at one’s own pace.  If I do not hear back, I will go ahead and order the same world language or for those in Music will do that.

Thanks so much!

Please update attendance

Good morning Families!

Thank you to all who worked hard to get the final Spring Scantron completed!  At this point in the game, please ensure that all attendance is updated.  Please look specifically at the dates ranging from 5/14/13 to currently.  Cava will be printing their final report soon.  It is important that ALL students log into their OLS/study Island daily all the way to June 11th as that is the final day of school.  For those 8th graders who are graduating this Friday, you are still expected to continue working on the online schools until the last day of school.

In regards to those who have not informed Cava or myself of your student’s placement next year (returning or not), you’ll need to do that today.  For those that marked “undecided” those students will be terminated from the program at the end of the year and if you choose to come back to Cava you’ll need to re register all over again. Most of you have already completed the survey or have informed me of this but for those who haven’t, I wanted to let you know how that works.

I wanted to also remind everyone that you’re all invited to this Friday’s graduation in Manteca at 11:30.  It is not mandatory but obviously would be nice to have all 8th graders there.

Thank you…keep up the great work!  Remember, students need to check in with Study Island to ensure all blue ribbons have been done. Some have thought they were done but you need to log in and click on the “ALL ___GRADE” button.  This will give all the blue ribbons and which pathways have not been thoroughly completed.

Study Island - please click on "ALL ____ GRADE"

Hello,

As we’re wrapping up the year, I know many have said they were done with their ribbons when in fact there are a few that still need to be done.   I’ve taken a snapshot below to walk you through the steps to ensure how you can obtain these.  Once you make it to step 3, you’ll see how many more need to be done. I will be handing out Study Island awards this Friday should the goal be met.  Thanks so much!

1.       Log into Study Island

2.       Click on “all 8th grade” or “all 7th grade”, or “all 6th grade”

Once you’re there, you’ll see a list of pathways and how many outstanding ribbons your student needs to complete still.

When these are clicked on, you will then be able to see the blue ribbons not completed.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
